“We discovered that education is not something which the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being.”
We are off to a positive start at the Montessori Greenhouse Schools. The hallways are once again filled with parents who are reconnecting with staff and other parents—friends from past years. The children also seem excited with the prospect of being back at school after a long summer away. A Montessori school gives promise of purposeful activity, the independent accomplishment of tasks, friendly interactions, and best of all developing feelings of competence—and although most children are not consciously aware of this, they sense that it is a good place to be. It is always a pleasure to listen to the sounds of happy children engaged in the process of constructing who they will become.
The month of September brings (for the second year) the start of our Music Rhapsody program in all classes, toddler –6th grade. This is an Orff-Schulwork model which utilizes movement, singing, and the use of instruments. We are so pleased to be able to offer this wonderful experience to our student population.
